Office of Religious Education

 Religious education is a life-long process. When you brought your children to be baptized, you accepted the responsibility of training them in the practice of faith. It is, then, your duty to bring them up to keep God’s commandments as Christ taught us, by loving God and our neighbor. Their Godparents agreed to help you in your duties as Christian parents. While we are honored to assist you in the solemn vow that you took, we also wish to make sure that we do not give mixed messages, so that what is being taught here will resonate through the home.

 We are here to proclaim Jesus Christ as our Savior to all the children who attend St. John Neumann from PreK4 to the first year of Confirmation preparation (8^th grade and above). We are all created in the image of God and so with that in mind, we shall celebrate as one. So as the great teacher, Jesus, said:

“Let the children come to me”

FAMILY MASS ATTENDANCE:

 One of the most important parts of our religious education program is Mass attendance. All students and families enrolled in our program are expected at attend Mass weekly. The fundamentals of our Catholic faith are presented each week at Mass. It becomes quite troubling to see parents who care so much for their children that they enroll them in a religious education program, yet do not follow through by partaking in the celebration of the Mass each week with their children. What they learn in their Religious Education classes will only make sense if you bring them to Mass regularly.

First Communion and Confirmation

Both First Communion and Confirmation are two-year preparation programs. The first year for First Communion is normally the 1^st grade. The first year for Confirmation is normally the 8^th grade. However, if you child has not attended classes before and is in a higher grade, he or she will begin their first year of preparation at their current grade level. 

CLASSES BEGIN ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 14, 2009 AND END ON WEDNESDAY, MAY 5, 2010

CLASS SCHEDULE:

SUNDAYS: 10:30am to 11:45am

Children who attend class on Sundays are expected to attend the Mass in addition to class. Enrollment is limited and available on a first come/first served basis.

PreK4, Kinder, 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, 5^th and 6^th grades.

Second year First Communion preparation grades 2-7

MONDAYS: 4:00pm TO 5:15pm

PreK4, Kinder, 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grades

Second year First Communion preparation

TUESDAYS: 4:00pm TO 5:15pm

PreK4, Kinder, 1^st, 2^nd, 3^rd, 4^th, and 5^th grades

Second year First Communion preparation

TUESDAYS: 7:30pm TO 8:45pm

6^th and 7^TH Grade

First Year Confirmation Preparation (Starting in 8^th Grade)

WEDNESDAYS: 3:30pm-4:45pm

In order to register for religious education classes please visit our office and complete a registration form.

REGISTRATION FOR 2009-2010 WILL BEGIN JULY 13th

FEES:

Stewardship Parishioners: (Parishioners who serve the Body of Christ through the weekly generosity of the time, talent and treasure)

No Fee

* To receive parishioner discount you must be a registered parishioner for one year

All children must register at the beginning of each year. Fees include books and materials. There is no additional charge for supplies. You may be asked to contribute snacks for parties or other celebrations. We never turn away a child because of money. If you are in a tight monetary situation, please come in a talk with the director. Every child is welcome.
